Prison Visits

The ICPO Maynooth office visits a number of clients in the United States and Europe each year. In recent years we have visited Irish people in prisons in the UAE, South America and Australia.  In addition, the ICPO London office regularly visits prisons in England and Wales.

These visits serve a number of important functions. They provide ICPO clients with an opportunity to speak to someone from home. It is also helpful to discuss certain issues face-to-face. These visits also allow the ICPO to assess a client’s needs in order to help the prisoner prepare for his or her release.

While it can be challenging to find regular prison visitors outside the UK, through links with various lay and religious organisations we are able to provide many ICPO clients with visitors. We are extremely grateful to all those who visit Irish prisoners on our behalf.
